Elmsett United 8-0 Trinity FC

17 Jan 2019 by Samuel Batram

Goal scorers: Aidan Bignell, Daryl Alexander, Jack Gage x4, Jacob Tampion, Isaac Everett

Man of the match: Jack Gage

Attendance: 9

Elmsett went into the first match of the new year hoping to progress in the cup and they got off to the perfect start as Gage squared for Bignell to give the home side the lead.

It didn’t take long for the advantage to be significantly extended thanks to smart finishes from Alexander and Gage. The fourth soon followed as Tampion slotted past the keeper after a wonderful passing move.

The closing moments of the first half brought the goal of the game as Gage stopped the ball stone dead as it fell from a long ball before rifling his shot into the bottom corner before the Trinity keeper had a chance to move.

The second half started the way the first had finished as Gage completed his hat-trick with an unorthodox volley. Everett then added a seventh with what I’ve been told was a wonderful strike.

The only disappointment of the day came as Ross Bray was shown a straight red for having a go at the linesman. He had clearly ignored the half time team talk about not getting any silly cards and will be sorely missed by the team for the next 3 games.

A flurry of substitutions and a bit of extra Christmas weight made for a turgid end to the game but that did not stop Gage adding his fourth and United’s eighth to round off the scoring.

So 2019 starts with Elmsett comprehensively into the next round of the cup and look forward to returning to league action next week as they face Ipswich Rangers.
