Shotley Rose 1-2 Elmsett United

15 Apr 2019 by Samuel Batram

Goal scorers: Kiefer Bultitude, Aidan Bignell

Man of the match: Danny Clarke

Attendance: 6

United returned to league action aiming to strengthen their hold on second place as they travelled to mid table Shotley. The away side started brightly but missed a glut of chances, Batram and Palmer squandering the best of the opportunities.

Despite Elmsett’s dominance, Shotley took the lead as the linesman missed the ball going out of play leaving the forward with a simple close range finish.

Chances continued to go begging for Elmsett but they finally drew level just before half time as the debutant Bultitude poked the ball past the keeper.

The second half became more of a battle as Elmsett knew only a win would be acceptable and they thought they’d taken the lead but the post came to Shotley’s rescue.

Elmsett finally grabbed the winner as Bignell latched on to Ryan Bray’s long ball and fired past the keeper. United managed to see the game out with Shotley unable to test Warner.

So a crucial if not empathic victory keeps Elmsett second with 3 games to play and they travel to Capel next week looking to consolidate their position.
