Elmsett United 5-2 Walton Wanderers

Man of the match: Daryl Alexander

Attendance: 11

United welcomed their promotion rivals Walton to The Shed knowing a victory would mean their opponents wouldn’t be able catch them. The game started with both teams throwing caution to the wind and it took Alexander’s defence-splitting ball out to Tampion who squared for Bultitude to tap in and give Elmsett the lead.

The lead lasted about 30 seconds as Walton’s Gimli got the better of Ryan Bray and Clarke to equalise by dinking the ball past Warner. There wasn’t much to choose between the two teams until another exquisite pass by Alexander was expertly shinned into the net by Palmer just before half time.

Walton dominated the opening moments of the second half but Elmsett doubled their advantage as the returning Bentley smashed the ball past the Walton keeper. The away side were immediately gifted a way back into the match as Clarke didn’t hear half the village telling him to get rid and wiped out Gimli who had dispossessed him, stonewall penalty. Warner did well to save it but the Walton forward smashed in the rebound.

Instead of the closing moments being tense, Elmsett dominated as Alexander put the result beyond doubt as first he rounded the keeper for the fourth and then headed in Bultitude’s superb cross to round off the scoring.

So an excellent 5-2 victory over Walton means Elmsett will finish second and are promoted for the third time in only their third season since forming. An amazing achievement by the team who will finish their season away to Walton next Sunday.

Up the Elmsett! 🔵⚪️
